Website Comparison and Analysis

I was assigned to look at 2 different genre of music and compare their homepage in order to see the differences the genre influences the designs of the website. 

Here is the homepage for "Bullet For My Valentine". It is an organic heavy metal band formed in 1998 from Wales. The homepage only contains the band logo, band name and the new album which suggests that their product is sold purely from their music, not their ideology or how 'cute' the band members are.

Here is the homepage for the girl band 'Little Mix.' It is a synthetic band as it was created and promoted mostly by the media team and sell their products through their ideology of 'girl power' which attracts young teenage girls who wants to be like them. The homepage has a background of the members of the band, suggesting that their products are sold from their looks rather than their actual music.

Designing New Webpage

Here is how i constructed my new webpage for the band i made up called "Subatomic." I used the website Wix to create this webpage as it is a good choice for beginners to start with. Wix comes with very simple tools and straight-forward applications in order for users to create their website without having to learn the complex codes which is required in Adobe Dreamweaver. This is what the homepage looks like:

 I started off by importing the background picture which I found online. I inserted the text with the band name "Subatomic" into the centre of the webpage, selected the suitable font and adjusted the size, opacity to the right proportion.

 After the name of the band, I added blogs to the webpage to make it more interesting, with many pictures and little texts in order to attract the audience who visits the website.

 Here is how i edit all my posts, I simply type in the heading, the body texts and insert pictures. After I'm done then i click on Update Post

I chose and selected variety of pictures from the internet which would look good on my website and downloaded each and everyone of them. I then upload into the Wix drive in which allow me to import these pictures onto my webpage.









Here I added the album cover which I created via Photoshop in my prior lesson. This is to make the website more realistic and capture the audience's attention to the new product of our album.

Photoshop Workshop- Construction

In our third and final lesson of learning basic Photoshop skills, we were given a task to design and create our own made-up album cover using the skills we learned throughout the past 3 days. Here is my final product after 1 hour of editing and modifying.:

• Step 1: Finding the suitable color scheme: I went on the internet and used Adobe Color CC and look for ideas for the right color scheme to go with my music genre (Heavy Metal.)

• Step 2: Finding suitable images: I researched some pictures via Google, selected and filtered some of the pictures which I think would look good on an album cover.

•  Step 3: I opened the pictures in Photoshop and started editing them by using the Magnetic Lasso Tool in order to crop out the pictures from the background.

• Step 4: I added the album name 'Silence' and the band logo 'I Prevail' using the Text Box Tool and adjusted the font and size to my desire, to fit in nicely with the album cover

• Step 5: I added all the pictures together into 1 files through different layers. I used the Smudge Tool to make the pictures blurry and blend in together nicely to go with the message behind the album name 'Silence.'

My Favourite Genre of Music

My favourite genre of music is Heavy Metal.

This is because these band creates rebellious image against the real world, making them a unique genre of music which has lots of deep meanings in their songs as well as expressing a message to the world. The heavy beats and distorted guitars and screams emphasises the messages that are being expressed by these bands to the audience.

Introduction to A2

A2 Media studies coursework is focused on the music industry side of media. Our coursework will involve a full pop music video, a CD album cover for the track as well as a website to promote the band and an exam at the end of the year. 

For our coursework, we will be doing online research into the music industry in order to achieve the music video we want. I will be using the same blogspot to keep track of the progress of my A2 work. This will allow the examiners to see clearly any new ideas or information i have gathered during the course of this year. I will be learning how to use photoshop and website editing software in order to create the album cover and the website to promote the band, which is going to be really useful in the future as well. 

I will achieve this by using wider variety of sources to present my information onto the blog rather just simple paragraphs or plain texts. This means that I’ll include more videos, powerpoint, audio clips, press etc in order to achieve better and higher marks next year.
